World Environment Day 2023: Solutions to Plastic Pollution

World Environment Day is held each year on June 5. It is one of the major vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action.

The year 2023 will be celebrated under the theme “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”. This year’s theme focuses on motivating people to give up on the usage of plastic and determine it as the source of environmental degradation.

The term "plastic pollution" refers to the accumulation of waste plastic products and particles pose to Earth's ecosystems. It has risen to the forefront of environmental concerns because of the exponential growth in the use of single-use plastics.

World Environment Day takes the opportunity to create a platform for fostering awareness in various sectors, but not limited to air pollution, waste management, plastic waste, and menstrual hygiene to provide long sustainable harmony with nature.

In recognition of World Environment Day, we must take immediate steps to protect our planet. We belong to the environment; it is very important for everyone’s life because life is possible because of the environment. The environment not only works to maintain balance in the climate but also provides all the things necessary for life.
