In the heart of one of Dhaka's bustling slum communities, something extraordinary happened today. Under the Chalantika Slum Children Development Project (CSCDP), we hosted a vital awareness session on fire safety and first aid, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence.
This wasn’t just another community event. It was an opportunity to empower residents with the knowledge and skills that can literally save lives.
Why This Training Matters
In densely populated urban slums, the risk of fire is alarmingly high. Narrow lanes, overcrowded housing, faulty electrical connections, and limited access to emergency services create a dangerous combination. At the same time, basic knowledge of first aid is often out of reach for families living in poverty.
That’s why today’s session was so important.

Hands-On Learning That Makes a Difference
With the expert guidance of the Fire Service team, community members were introduced to:
Fire prevention tips tailored to the local environment
How to safely use a fire extinguisher, with hands-on demonstrations
What to do in the event of a fire, including evacuation procedures
Basic first aid techniques for treating burns, cuts, and other injuries
For many participants, it was the first time they had ever handled a fire extinguisher or learned how to respond in an emergency. Their enthusiasm was clear—and so was the impact. Community members eagerly engaged in demonstrations and asked thoughtful questions, proving that knowledge truly is power.
Building a Safer, More Resilient Community
At ADRA Bangladesh, we believe that education and awareness are the first steps toward resilience. By equipping slum residents with practical safety knowledge, we’re not just responding to potential emergencies—we're working to prevent them.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence team for their commitment, clarity, and compassion. Their engaging presentation and down-to-earth explanations made complex topics understandable and accessible to all.
Looking Ahead
This session is just one part of our broader mission through CSCDP to uplift and empower slum communities. From education and health to safety and social development, we are working together for change.
Because no one should be left behind when it comes to safety, dignity, and hope.
