World Press Freedom Day 2020

World Press Freedom Day is annually observed on May 3 to apprise the international community that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are primary human rights. This day is also celebrating the spirit of journalism.

The freedom of countenance of the media or press assists in creating awareness amongst the common people. The World Press Freedom Day is observed as a day to remind the governments about the role journalists play in delivering information even under the worst-case scenario, thus their freedom of expression should never be obstructed. Each year, a specific World Press Day theme is selected. This year the theme of the day is "Journalism without Fear or Favour".

It is a day to embolden and improve initiatives in favor of press freedom and evaluate freedom of press globally. It is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional principles.

Eventually, the freedom of the press can only be ensured by a synchronized universal exertion, community mindfulness, and a focus on the long-term advantages of a more critical world.
