World Hepatitis Day 2023: One Life, One Liver

World Hepatitis Day is observed on July 28th every year. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about viral hepatitis and the devastating impact it can have on people's health and well-being. Viral hepatitis is a group of infectious diseases that affect the liver, and it is estimated that over 290 million people worldwide are living with this disease.

This year, World Hepatitis Day is observed under the theme, “One Life, One Liver,” which will highlight the importance of the liver for a healthy life, and the need to scale up viral hepatitis prevention, testing, and treatment to optimize liver health, prevent liver disease and achieve the 2030 hepatitis elimination goals.

The most common types of viral hepatitis are hepatitis A, B, and C. Each type is caused by a different virus, and they all have different symptoms and treatments. Hepatitis A is usually spread through contaminated food or water, while hepatitis B and C are usually spread through blood or bodily fluids. Hepatitis B and C are particularly dangerous because they can cause chronic liver disease, liver cancer, and even death if left untreated.

Fortunately, there are effective vaccines available for hepatitis A and B, and there are now highly effective treatments for hepatitis C. However, many people are still unaware of the risks of hepatitis and the importance of getting vaccinated or tested for the disease. That's why World Hepatitis Day is so important – it's a chance to raise awareness and encourage people to take action to protect their health.

By taking these steps, you can help to protect your health and the health of others. Remember, help can't wait – take action today!

Worldwide exertions give priority to the elimination of hepatitis B, C, and D infections. Unlike acute viral hepatitis, these three infections lead to chronic hepatitis that lasts for several decades and culminates in over one million deaths per year that happen because of cirrhosis and liver cancer.
