Rajib Resumes His Study

Numerous people are migrating to Dhaka daily from the southern part (coastal area) of Bangladesh for an improved living. Barisal, Bhola, and Patuakhali are the most vulnerable districts in coastal areas of Bangladesh. Every year people from coastal areas are battered with floods and river erosion. They are losing their livelihoods and getting distressed affected by natural calamities.

Rajib is a 13-years-old kid who lives in the Chalantika slum with his family who have come from Bhola, a southern district of Bangladesh. There are six members of his family. Rajib’s father is Md. Alauddin Foraji is a garments worker and his mother Kohinur Begum is a housewife.

Rajib was born in Bhola. After 21 days of his birth, he became sick. His parents admitted him to the hospital for a month to get proper treatment. Doctors recommended to stay longer but they had no money so they left the hospital. They took a loan from other people for the treatment. It was so hard to maintain the family expenses only depending on the income of his father.

Then they decided to move to Dhaka intending to earn more money. They rented a room in Chalantika slum. They are living in a slum that lacks all the basic amenities. Their house made of bamboo with a CI sheet roof. They use a hanging toilet by using a slab. The latrine is unhealthy and smelly. People of eight families use two toilets by sharing and one kitchen for cooking. The rooms are very tiny in the slum. They cannot get the water for drinking properly which disrupts their daily life. They are suffering a lot due to the lack of a garbage management system. People throw garbage everywhere in the Chalantika slum which causes odor. This is the real scenario of the Chalantika slum in Dhaka.

Not only in Bangladesh but in all the under-develop countries the scenario of the slum area is almost the same. Life is full of struggle in the slum. Especially children are mostly deprived of their basic education. They have to fight against the gruesome vulnerabilities constantly.

Rajib was studying in the village school but they shifted in Dhaka in the middle of the year so he had to stop his study. Chalantika Slum Children Development Project (CSCDP) took Rajib as a replacement for a drop out child. He prepared himself for six months in the center for the next class and 2017 he started studying in the school.

Rajib is a brilliant and gentle boy. He always carries out a good result. He likes to play Cricket. When he has time, he plays cricket with his friends. He wants to be a Doctor in the future. He wants to make his family financially stable.
