International Day of Families: Importance of A Family

The International Day of Families, annually held on May 15, celebrates the importance of families. The role of a family is significant as it provides love, sustenance, and a framework of ethics to each of its members. Family members teach each other, serve one another, and share the joys and sorrows of life. Families provide a foundation for personal growth. Family is the single most imperative influence in a child’s life.

Family plays a vital role in the development of a child’s mental health. The most significant role family plays are ‘socialization’ for children. Socialization is the process of adopting social norms, values, and customs. A child receives its fundamental education in terms of developing social behavior from the family.

However, a family is the storehouse of love. Children receive care, love, and affection from the family. Gradually, a child learns and develops its behavior from the family to grow up as a better human being.

Besides, the family teaches us better communication. When people stay and spend time with family they love each other and communicate amenably. This way we can learn how to communicate with the rest of the world.

During this COVID-19 pandemic situation, family bonding is highly needed. When frustration engulfing the whole world, people need someone to share grief and agonies. Only family members can stand beside each other to ease the torment. Families can be a source of support in good times and in bad.

Building a resilient home and family entails commitment. Having a happy family is one of our life’s utmost rewards and worth all the hard work and sacrifice.
